Editing for impact

The brief

Edit an annual research publication that appeals to different audiences. Deliver content that is both engaging and scientifically correct.

The client

Stellenbosch University’s Division for Research

The context

Today, research institutions use online platforms to make their work visible and engage diverse audiences. As science communicators, we are interested in the communication space situated at the intersection between scientific and journalistic communication.

The process

We focused on structural editing that improves clarity and accuracy for impact. This approach helped to ensure consistency throughout the document that was written by multiple authors and in different styles.

The result

We produced easy-to-read content that highlights the work of SU’s researchers.  The report received two MACE awards, including the Chairperson’s Award of Excellence in 2019. The annual MACE awards recognise excellence in marketing, advancement, and communication in the higher education sector.
